Traditional Chinese Medicine is an ancient holistic system of medicine used for over 4000 years. Acupuncture is used to treat syndromes and imbalances in the body by regulating the energy in the meridians. The “meridians” are the energy pathways in the body. Fine needles are inserted into the points along the meridians of the body triggering a healing response, which helps restore the body to a natural state of balance on emotional, physical and spiritual planes. From a Western medicine perspective, research has indicated that acupuncture strengthens immune function and has a stimulating effect on the nervous system, as well as releasing and regulating chemicals and hormones which benefit the body. During acupuncture endorphins are released which helps reduce pain and has other benefits, many of which assists the body’s ability to regulate itself.
